Both axes use the same scale. Landmarks are drawn in metres and disappear below one CSS pixel; labels do not represent object size. The airliner is an enlarged symbol that scales with the scene, at an example cruise altitude of 11 km. The 1961 Tsar Bomba hydrogen-bomb test was the largest nuclear test; its cloud top reached approximately 64 km. The cloud outline is illustrative.
Continental crust is illustrated as 35 km thick. Borehole line width is schematic. Shenditake 1 reaches 10,910 m vertically; CNPC reports Asia’s deepest and the world’s second-deepest vertical well, for oil/gas and scientific exploration. Horizontal well length is not vertical depth. The Mariana Trench is illustrated at its deepest point, about 10,935 m, using NOAA’s Challenger Deep value.
The dashed outline is the 100 km Kármán reference line, not the physical end of the atmosphere. Air gradually thins without a sharp edge. Horizontal landmark positions are arranged for comparison, not geographical. Rock texture, mountain outlines and clouds are illustrative.
